My Top 8 Essential Oils and Why I Don’t Leave Home Without Them

My Top 8 Essential Oils and Why I Don’t Leave Home Without Them

So many people believe that a woman’s purse is a scary thing. Of course, this opinion is usually shared by the men in our lives. The maternal instinct in women is strong, and we always feel the need to be prepared for any situation that can unexpectedly happen. In essence, a woman’s purse is mostly the emergency kit that most of us can’t leave home without.

With the introduction of essential oils into my everyday life, I soon became exposed to a new quandary. I quickly realized that I am not able to bring all my arsenal of essential oils with me when I leave home. I now felt a sense of panic, and quickly had to find a solution to this problem. At first, I had three or four bottles in my sunglasses case. But that did not leave room for, well, my sunglasses. I finally found the solution and ordered my own essential oils keychain case.

I lined up my collection of essential oils, and started filling these sample bottles with the oils that I felt I must have with me at all times. The following are my Top 8 Essential Oils that I simply cannot leave home without.

Top Essential Oil #1 – Peppermint EO

Peppermint Essential Oil was my first choice. This oil contains invigorating and cooling properties, perfect for that afternoon pick-me-up. Great for unexpected hot flashes, or sudden headaches. You can quickly apply a drop along your forehead for that throbbing pain. You can apply at the back of your neck to quickly address that rise in body temperature. I love to add a drop or two in my water at a restaurant for flavour and boost in energy.  This essential oil also calms an upset stomach after that greasy lunch from the food court. Inhaling this oil works amazing for clearing the sinuses as well. Yes, this oil needs to leave the house with me.

Top Essential Oil #2 – Lemon EO

Another one of my favorite oils! At a restaurant, I also add a drop or two with the Peppermint EO to my water glass. The combination of both oils attack tummy troubles when away from home. I love this combination. Aside from this preference, this oil is wonderful to have when you need to disinfect your hands.  Applying a drop or two in the palm of your hands will remove the yucky associated with public exposure. Its ability to handle an impromptu stain from grease or paint is a handy tool to carry in your arsenal. Lemon EO is also perfect for a sudden runny nose, as it helps with congestion and stuffiness from colds and allergies alike.  Perfect for my second choice.

Top Essential Oil #3 – Lavender EO

lavender-peppermint-lemon-doterra-eoI simply do not leave home without my Lavender Essential Oil. In the bustle of a busy mall, inhale a drop from the palm of your hand to reduce the tension and anxiety related to crowds. Its relaxing and calming properties will ease the stress from any situation. This oil is fantastic for a sudden burn, and quickly relieves the pain from the discomfort.  Another wonderful benefit is the oil’s ability to remove the pain from a sudden insect bite or bee and wasp sting. It provides instant relief. Lavender EO works wonders on a sunburn as well, simply by topical application. This oil is beloved by many, as it is known to balance and calm the body and seems to know where it needs to go to help you. When in doubt, Lavender Essential Oil is a perfect choice.

Top Essential Oil #4 – On Guard Protective Blend EO

You never know when you leave your home who you may meet along the way. This wonderful proprietary blend of Wild Orange, Clove, Cinnamon, Eucalyptus, and Rosemary EO, is a must have at all times. On Guard Protective Blend EO is an important immune booster to help you fight against the exposure to germs, viruses and bacteria. There are so many airborne pathogens when you are in a public setting. It is a comfort to know that this little gem is not far away.  When the need to guard yourself from the unwanted germs or viruses, inhale a drop or two from the palm of your hand for a quick attack. You can also apply topically along the throat, stomach, or the bottom of your feet. Dilute with coconut oil for possible skin sensitivities.

Top Essential Oil #5 – Breathe (Easy Air) Respiratory Blend EO

This proprietary blend is another essential oil I refuse to leave home without. What an amazing combination of seven essential oils including Cardamom, Peppermint, Eucalyptus, Melaleuca, and Lemon EO. This power house of EO will assist you with most of the respiratory issues that arise. You can simply apply a drop or two to the palm of your hand and inhale deeply. You will feel the nasal passages and respiratory system respond immediately to this fast working blend. I also use Breathe (Easy Air) EO for a sudden coughing fit, or when I feel my sinuses clog up. The name of this essential oil blend says it all. Don’t leave home without this one as well.

Top Essential Oil #6 – Deep Blue Soothing Blend EO

Now this blend is a power house. This combination of seven essential oils, mainly Wintergreen, Camphor, Peppermint, and Helichrysum EO to name a few, carries properties to address inflammation, alleviate pain and discomfort. A perfect blend to have handy after a long walk or session at the gym. Applying topically to sore and tired muscles, the relief is rapid and, like the name implies, goes deep to the muscles. Deep Blue Blend is paramount to have available, as you never know when a cramp or stiffness will hit you. Another very important blend to never leave home without.

Top Essential Oil #7 – Melaleuca Essential Oil

Melaleuca Essential Oil, also known at tea tree oil, boasts properties of being antiseptic, antibacterial, and antifungal, to name a few. Such an important oil to have at the ready. As I described in an earlier blog post: A Day in the Life of the Common Cold, I talk about the technique of doing a Melaleuca Lick to reduce the pain associated with a sore throat. It is very effective and works fast. This oil is important for cuts and wounds due to its antiseptic properties. Perfect for skin irritations, fungal infections and staph infections. Yes, of course, another crucial essential oil to always have on hand. Always!!!

Top Essential Oil #8 – Wild Orange Essential Oil

wild-orangesHow I love the aroma of Wild Orange Essential Oil. One of my favorite and intoxicating fragrances, a drop of this oil combined with Peppermint EO delivers the perfect boost to any dull day. Simply add a drop of each Peppermint and Wild Orange EO in the palm of your hand and inhale. This essential oil can also be added to your drinking water for a burst of flavour, all the while, boosting the immune system. Similar to other citrus oils, this one also provides important antioxidants to promote an overall health. This oil may  be the last one listed, but it is by far, one of my top choices.

So Many Oils….

No, I am not finished with my top oils. It was at this point that I realized that there still remained many more top essential oils that I needed to bring with me. Seriously! I still need Oregano, Frankincense, Lemongrass, Helichrysum, just to name a few. And that does not include the many proprietary blends, like Zengest (DigestZen), Serenity, Whisper or Citrus Bliss. That cute and compact keychain case would simply not do. I decided that by purchasing another case in a different colour, I could carry the single essential oils in one, and the blends in the other one. I have a feeling that I will just as quickly fill all the sample size bottles with another array of top choices as well. Not sure how I will figure this one out now.

What essential oils must you take when you leave your home? I challenge you to stick to just eight of them. Good luck!!!
