New school Essential Oils? Check √ Wait! What?
Everyone has been so busy this past week with trips to the mall to purchase all sorts of school supplies, school clothes, and groceries for school lunches. But most of you have forgotten one of the most important school supply of all. It is the inclusion of Essential Oils in your Back to School preparations. These small amber colored bottles will provide all the help your children will need for the start of a new, successful school year. Shall we examine the much needed school supplies now?
School supply #1 – On Guard Protective Blend Essential Oils
We have all experienced those first few days of Back to School. Your child comes home, filled with stories, excited about the new kids and teachers they have met. They recount their day in an animated tone. All the while, they begin to sniffle and cough, not realizing that the latest homework is not the only thing they brought home with them. This exposure to all these friends and teachers and bus drivers has also exposed them to germs, viruses, and airborne pathogens.
I chose On Guard as the first EO to mention, as I feel that it should be the number one oil to consider in your Back to School preparations. This effective blend contains a powerhouse of Wild Orange, Clove, Cinnamon, Eucalyptus, and Rosemary Essential Oils. The combination of these five oils provide a wonderful immune boost as well as a natural antioxidant defense.
At the start of the school year, you can diffuse On Guard in your home, as a barrier against the germs that will arrive with your kids. At bedtime, a drop of On Guard can be applied under the feet for an extra boost to their immune system. This blend is also available in a convenient roller bottle for easier application. You can include an On Guard beadlet with their morning breakfast to help arm your children against germs and viruses. Certainly this is an important EO blend for any academic year. Actually, this is also a very important blend for every day of the year. I especially love the aroma of On Guard Protective Blend.
School supply #2 – Peppermint and Wild Orange Essential Oils
This is one of my most favorite and daily combination of two essential oils. In an earlier blog post: The Screech that Pierced my Dreams, I talk about how this wonderful mixture of these two oils have helped me to wake up and greet the new day. I personally use this homemade blend on a daily basis, and sometimes more frequently, for the added push in the afternoons.
Nothing says Good Morning better than the uplifting aromas of Peppermint and Wild Orange EO. When this blend is inhaled deeply, you can feel the Peppermint invigorate the senses and wake the body, while the Wild Orange uplifts the mood and energizes your kids in greeting the day.
While you wait for your morning coffee, diffuse this blend in the kitchen as your kids slowly make their way for breakfast. Like me, you can have this mixture in a glass bottle and apply a drop in the palm of the sleepy head’s hands. They can inhale deeply and you can watch the transformation from night to morning. This blend can also be placed in a roller bottle and quickly applied to little wrists or the nape of the neck as another line of defense against the morning brain fog. I love this blend so much, and trust me, it will quickly become a staple at your home as well.
School supply #3 – Lavender or Serenity Calming Blend Essential Oils
It has been a very busy day at school. So many things happened , that your child has become this animated story teller with no OFF switch. Thank goodness for the properties of Lavender or Serenity Calming Blend Essential Oils. These two oils, together or individually, can help to slow down and calm the mind of your child at bedtime.
At bath time, you can add two or three drops of Lavender or Serenity to the bathwater, or dissolve a homemade Foaming Bath Bomb that has been infused with these EO. Rubbing the bottom of little feet with Lavender or Serenity will help calm and relax excited minds. While reading a bedtime story, you can also diffuse either or both of these oils in your child’s room to ease stress and help your child drift into a wonderful slumber. These two oils will quickly become an important part of your child’s night time routine.
School supply #4 – In Tune Focus Blend Essential Oil
Going to school and homework go hand in hand for every student, no matter what age or grade. At one time or another, all students will require discipline and focus, especially the high school and post-secondary students, when they are faced with the daunting task of homework. The great news is that In Tune Focus Blend was specifically formulated to assist even the most wandering of minds.
This grounding blend of Patchouli, Frankincense, Lime, Ylang Ylang, Hawaiian Sandlewood and Roman Chamomile essential oils, when combined, help to provide focus and mental clarity. It helps to calm the mind and relieve the student of nervousness and stress. It can also increase concentration and attentiveness and assist with the task at hand.
In Tune Focus Blend is readily available in a roller bottle for fast and easy application. For those with ADD or ADHD, applying this blend can assist the student with the difficulties of paying attention throughout the day. The blend can be applied topically to the back of the neck, pulse points, along the spine or the bottom of the feet. You can also diffuse in your student’s room to help maintain the level of concentration and focus.
Spoiler alert! I love applying this blend prior to blog writing. It really helps me to concentrate, and clear my mind of the daily clutter. Students are not the only ones who have to stay the course!!!
School supply #5 – Motivate Encouraging Blend of Essential Oils
At times, students lose their confidence or become discouraged and overwhelmed by the mounting demands of school work. They may have a big project to present to their peers. They may feel that the essay they have labored over just isn’t up to par. This beautiful blend of Peppermint, Clementine, Coriander, Basil, Melissa, and Rosemary Essential Oils may be just the solution students need.
Motivate Encouraging Blend helps to boost confidence by reducing the feelings of doubt and depression attributed to the high demands of school. When inhaled deeply, this combination of essential oils helps to invigorate and get the creative juices flowing. By minimizing the feelings of anxiety and pessimism, this blend becomes the helping hands to climb out of the state students sometimes find themselves in.
A drop of this blend can be applied topically to pulse points on the hands or feet before a presentation. Applying a drop or two to your sport jersey before a game can also help to increase confidence and enhance endurance. To help with the crippling feelings of confusion and mental fatigue, rubbing a drop to the temples or back of the neck might just be the ticket.
One Final School Supply to Consider
It is so easy to forget that Back to School not only impacts children, but adults as well. Many teachers also start a new year along side the students. While the essential oils that I have discussed above would also apply perfectly to them, there is yet another blend that is worthy of a mention.
This “teacher special” blend is know as PastTense Tension Blend. The combination of Wintergreen, Lavender, Peppermint, Frankincense, Cilantro, Marjoram, Roman Chamomile, Basil, and Rosemary is conveniently available in a roller bottle. As the day’s tensions increase, an easy application to the temples, back of neck, and forehead of this powerful blend is a teacher’s must have in the classroom.
PastTense Tension Blend is perfect for the onset of headaches and migraines. It also helps reduce the effects of tension and stress. By encouraging blood flow throughout the body, this combination is wonderful for relief of joint pain and cramping after a long day of teaching. This would actually be a wonderful gift idea for that extra special teacher.
Welcome back to school everyone. I truly hope that this blog was a helpful learning experience. Please share your comments and let me know what is your favorite Back to School Essential Oil, so together we can all learn. Enjoy!!!

September 21, 2016 at 8:47 amHave you used the In Focus? I am wondering how well it works. Although, now that I think of the blend of Peppermint and Orange, it reminds me that it is time to put in an order!

September 21, 2016 at 1:59 pmYes, I do actually use the In Tune Focus Blend. It is very effective when I am blog writing. It is very handy to use as well as it comes in a roller bottle. Certain oils are available in the roller bottles, Oregano being one such oil. The blends are ready mixed and good to go.
